When Sophie Allison says “I finally did it” to her friends and colleagues gathered around her desk, she really means it. color theory as a soccer mom. It’s an album that marks a major breakthrough for her in songwriting and production. There was no doubt that a big year was in store for her and her bandmates…and we all know how it went. band’s visit was the first to be canceled due to the pandemic.

That time in history required making a lot of lemonade out of all of us. Luckily for us at NPR Music and beyond, Soccer Mommy was the first to record a Tiny Desk (Home) performance for us shortly after lockdown started. It was a much-needed early sign that life might still be waiting for us on the other side. .

With all that in mind, it was especially lovely to have Sophie, guitarist Julian Powell, keyboardist Rodrigo Abendano, bassist Nicholas Widener and percussionist Lorum Haas at the Tiny Desk at the end. The four-song set, which includes pieces from each era in the Soccer Mommy catalog, is beautifully performed and outlined. Welcome to the debut, soccer moms.
