Mickey Loomis was traded up to No. 11 in the 2022 NFL Draft, selecting wide receiver Chris Olave from Ohio. He could be a key player in his offense for the New Orleans Saints in the future.
Six rookies have been named finalists for one of the league’s highest honors, the 2022 Pepsi Zero Sugar NFL Rookie of the Year Award.
Olave had an impressive rookie campaign with the New Orleans Saints. He led the team with 72 receptions and 1,042 receiving yards and added four touchdowns. This was second in the league for rookies in both categories.
Quarterback Andy Dalton trusted Olave to find opportunities in the opponent’s secondary, averaging 69.5 receiving yards a game, leading all NFL rookies.
Olave recorded the third-best rookie total receiving yards in a season behind Marquez Colston’s 1,038 receiving yards in 2006 and Michael Thomas’ 1,137 receiving yards in 2016.
According to the NFL, Chris Olave has “recorded 50+ receiving yards in 12 games, leading all rookies and the third-most all-time rookie, ahead of Michael Clayton (2004). 14 games in 1996) and Terry Glenn” (13 games in 1996)”
The San Diego, California native has proven to be a very talented receiver and a great fit on the New Orleans Saints offense. He made his debut against Atlanta in Week 1 and made his conversion in a New Orleans comeback 27–26 with his 3 catches, 41 yards and 2 points.
His route running and explosive power made Olave special as a rookie. He was second only to former OSU teammate Garrett Wilson for his total receiving yards of 1,102, but played two fewer games than him. He was projected to surpass the Jets’ rookie in total wins this season.
Joins Olave and Wilson as rookie finalists nominated for the 2022 Pepsi Zero Sugar NFL Rookie of the Year Award, with Sauce Gardner (Jets), Aidan Hutchinson (Lions), Kenneth Walker (Seattle) and Tarik Uren (Seahawks) was selected.
