Bams Boxing concludes a memorable year

It’s been a big end of the year for Team Bams in 2022. Tamarakitoa has been contacted by his Snapback Boxing in Palmerston North to have some members join him for his charity fight on December 3rd.

The event was to raise funds for youth suicide prevention. We entered five representatives of him and received five of his opponents who were happy to participate – Waka Petera, Maya Lilo Maru, Kaea Boyd, Tim Tracy and Weller Hauraki. .

There was only a short, grueling training camp of about five to six weeks, but the boxers put in a lot of effort and pushed each other.

Weigh-in night took place on December 2nd, when Team Bams headed out to meet their opponents for the first time and squared off after recording their weights. All went well, followed by the team’s dinner at the Cozy Club.

On December 3rd, the Big Fight Night was held at the Awapuni Racing Center in Palmerston North. The team had a very successful night for his Bums, winning three of their five games, with his remaining two games split by a narrow margin.

It was also a great evening as half the crowd was made up of Dannevirke supporters – they booked half the tables!

To wrap up the year, Boxing NZ informed us that Conor Anderson has been selected for the NZ Youth Development Team. He earned a spot on the team not only by being his two-time NZ and Golden his glove champion, but also by winning various other regional titles.

It’s going to be a busy year for him as he travels across the country to attend weekend training camps.

The next competition will be in Auckland from 10-12 February, followed by a boxing tournament in Auckland on 17 February and the Youth Oceania Championship in Samoa from 17-23 April. I will participate.

I’ve also had a few opportunities to fight in Australia this year, and it’s all going well!

We will be updating and updating our board of club sponsors this month as well, looking into fundraising ideas to help with Connor’s travel and expenses.

Conor’s big goal going forward is to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather Colin and uncle Nigel Anderson and make it to the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
