Fight breaks out between players at New Haven high school basketball game – NBC Connecticut

After Monday night’s game, a fight broke out between basketball players from Basic High School and Wilbur Cross High School.

School officials said the match was held at the Floyd Little Athletic Center, and a brawl broke out during a post-match handshake event.

Bridgeport School interim superintendent Alicia Perrin said authorities were investigating the incident and would take appropriate action.

“Participating in the district’s interschool athletics program is a privilege, and the district will not tolerate any conduct that is unsportsmanlike, promotes violence, significantly disrupts the educational process, or harms others,” Perrin said in a statement. The New Haven school district said police and security broke up the fight.

The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) said senior staff are in contact with both schools regarding the incident.

A scheduled game between Basic High School and Wilbur Cross High School has been canceled for the rest of the week, according to school administrators.

Officials did not say why the fight broke out. This incident is under investigation.
