ATLANTA — — Dejounte Murray scored 12 of 28 points in the final period as the Atlanta Hawks thwarted Miami’s comeback attempt to beat the Heat 121-113 for a third straight win on Monday.
The Hawks (22-22) tied their season-best winning streak with consecutive road wins against Indiana and Toronto.
“We won three against three good teams,” Murray said. “We have to be consistent. That’s the main thing for the rest of the year.”
Trae Young added 24 points and the Hawks, who have never lost, are back at .500.
In a matchup of teams looking to move up from their current position as the Eastern Conference’s play-in team, Miami (24-21) ended a three-game winning streak despite Jimmy Butler’s 34 points. Bam Adebayo has 20 points and 13 rebounds.
The Hawks made 8-of-12 3-of-12 shooting 67% overall from the field (26-of-39) and led 70-50 at halftime. Miami outscored Atlanta 63–51 in the second half.
Heat manager Erik Spoelstra said it was a “tale of two halves” and that the “huge difference” in the teams’ defensive efforts “came from them blowing the door down in the first half.”
Spoelstra added: “We made too many mistakes in the second half that we had to overcome.”
