HOUSTON — The Houston Texans are looking to pick one of the top two quarterbacks in either CJ Stroud or Bryce Young in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Neither player has a first choice, as the Texans enter the draft with the second pick. But with Stroud’s declaration Monday, Houston will certainly get the next franchise his quarterback either way.
The Chicago Bears have the #1 overall pick, but could trade down to a team in need of a quarterback.
Stroud’s selection would give General Manager Nick Caserio the ideal quarterback based on his height.
Stroud may not have the arm strength that made Young a top-rated prospect, but the gap in talent between the two respective parties isn’t too far. completed 69.3% of passes with 85 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
He’s not your typical double-threat quarterback like Lamar Jackson or Justin Fields. But he has the athletic ability to use his legs when needed.
And since the dumping of Deshawn Watson, the Texans have a chance to acquire another promising quarterback with an “it” factor. I was hoping for
One of his most memorable performances of the year came on November 12, when Stroud led the Buckeyes to a 56–14 win over Indiana. He finished with 297 yards and 5 passing touchdowns.
The Texans have the capital to improve their franchise through the draft. An expected choice of Stroud or Young, either quarterback would be an upgrade over Davis Mills.
