One former player won’t be returning to broadcast the Detroit Tigers on Bally Sports Detroit next season.
Jack Morris disappeared from the booth in 2023, according to a Detroit News report.
The Detroit News noted ongoing budget cuts and Morris’ desire to spend more time with his son in Minnesota, but did not mention why the 67-year-old left.
It is unknown whether the parting was mutual. Bally Sports Detroit is cutting his budget starting in 2020. Also, Morris’ son Miles, a very popular pitcher in Minnesota, is set to enter his senior season at Matmedy High School. Morris said he wanted to spend more time with him.
Morris was one of several players, along with Kirk Gibson, Craig Monroe and Dan Petrie, who worked as Tigers analysts and worked on plays by play announcer Matt Shepard. Detroit News reports that Monroe is expected to take on much of his Morris work in the booth, Gibson will remain part of the broadcast team, and Petry will do more pre- and post-game studio work. I’m here.
In 2021, Morris was suspended by Bally Sports Detroit and the Tigers for attempting racist humor in an at-bat against Shohei Ohtani.
