This is the second time US Bank Stadium has hosted playoff football.
Since the stadium opened in 2016, it played its last home postseason game five years ago, almost on that day. Everyone remembers what happened. From Keith Keenum to Stephon Diggs. A 61-yard walkoff touchdown. Miracle in Minneapolis.
The following offseason, the Vikings moved from Keenum and signed Kirk Cousins to a big free agency deal. I did. A wild card berth in 2019 and a walk-off win over the Saints led to a divisional round beatdown at the hands of the 49ers.
500 season in a row in 2021, the Vikings parted ways with longtime GM Rick Spielman and head coach Mike Zimmer. They ushered in a new era and culture with his two young, supportive leaders, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and Kevin O’Connell.
What kind of ride has it been since then?
The Vikings are 13-4 this season, winning the NFC North for the first time since 2017. At home, he was 8-1. They went 11-0 in 1-score games, an NFL record. From his doink double in London to Game of the Year in Buffalo to his biggest comeback in NFL history against the Colts, the finish was incredibly dramatic. The Vikings, oddly enough, were blown away with 3 of their 4 losses and somehow finished with a negative points margin despite their lofty record. but very few believe they have the potential to do a deep run outside their building.
This is your chance to prove those people wrong. The first is a game against the Giants. The Giants are already one of the top performing teams with a freshman head coach. What’s intriguing is the fact that these teams played three weeks before him. This is the game the Vikings won on his goal by Greg Joseph on his 61-yard game-winning field.
Cousins will be playing in a postseason game at home for the first time. Young stars like Justin Jefferson and Christian Dalisault get their first taste of football in the NFL playoffs. Major players from the Mike Zimmer era, including Harrison Smith, Eric Kendricks, and Adam Thielen, will try to bring the Vikings back to his NFC title in his games and beyond. Rookies with plenty of playoff experience on other teams, including Zadarius Smith and Harrison his Phillips, hope to make an impact.
This should be fun.
