The Chicago Cubs signed Illinois native Mike Tauchman to a minor league contract, according to team trading records. Tauchiman is a veteran outfielder who has returned to South Korea after his stint with the Hanwha Eagles.

Tauchman plays for the Colorado Rockies and made his MLB debut with the Rockies during the 2017 MLB season. He spent 2017-2021 with the Colorado, New York Yankees, and San Francisco Giants at the major league level.

In 257 games at the MLB level, Tauchman averaged .231/.326/.378 and hit 17 home runs. During his time abroad, the outfielder hit .289/.366/.430.

His 2020 campaign with the Yankees was derailed by a shoulder injury and he was traded to the Giants during the 2021 MLB season. Although his 2019 season was a success, Tauchman never regained his form, opting to find his game and regain production in Asia.

In addition to having some success at bat, he is known for his above-average defense in the outfield. This is a big move for the Cubs as they continue to perfect their contingency plans for his 2023 MLB season.
