The Orlando Magic may be looking to make some minor tweaks to their roster as the NBA trade deadline approaches.
The Magic has several veterans, including Gary Harris, who can provide the leadership and specific skills needed for competing teams.
The 28-year-old Harris is averaging 8.6 points per game and shooting just over 39% past the 3-point line. For teams looking for long-range shooting threats, Harris is one of the best names on the market.
Bleacher Report suggests the Cleveland Cavaliers may see Harris as a potential trade target. He has a 36.2% long-range shooting percentage for the Cavaliers, which ranks him 13th in the league.
If the Magic signed Harris, the team could get a lucrative young player in return, and that could be third-year pro Isaac Okoro.
Okoro, 21, was the fifth overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. He’s been a bit lost in the Cavaliers’ plans with Donovan Mitchell, mostly starting in Cleveland’s first two years before being off the bench for much of the season. I am recording my score.
In a potential deal, Harris would go to Cleveland and Okoro would go to Orlando.
To match the salary, the Cavaliers are sending Dylan Windler, who hasn’t played yet this season, to the Magic.
Okoro brings athleticism, youth and potential to the second unit. It will be interesting to see how the change of scenery works for a player who was only a top five pick three years ago.
The Magic are hoping for some upside while trading for a valuable player in Harris, but he probably won’t get much if he gets traded in the offseason.
