Raleigh, North Carolina — The No. 16 Millbrook Wildcats added another conference win to their resume on Friday night, beating the Wakefield Wolverines 52-49 at home.
Wakefield came out strong for an upset as the Wolverines opened the scoring and jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the first quarter.
Then Millbrook’s height edge played a big role, allowing him to create additional possessions with his offensive rebounds as the Wildcats began to heat up off the floor.
The Wildcats went into the halftime break with a 23-20 lead.
They maintained their momentum in the second half, starting the third quarter with a 9-0 run and a double-digit lead.
After that, Wakefield was able to get a little closer and the Wolverines stayed much closer.
Despite battling foul trouble and missing most of the game, Alabama signer Rachel Douglas scored eight points in a winning effort.Douglas averaged 17.9 per game in her senior season. I entered the play with points.
Senior Robin Clark led by 15 points in Douglas’ partial absence.
Wakefield falls to 12-5 overall and 1-2 in NAC play, while Millbrook improves to 11-5, 3-3 in the conference.
The two teams will meet again at Wakefield on Friday 3rd February.
