The state of Mississippi will hire Oklahoma’s deputy athletic director, Zach Selmon, as its athletic director, the program announced Friday.

Sports Illustrated’s Ross DeLanger reports. Bulldog interest in Selmon on Wednesday. He will replace John Cohen, who was hired as his director of Auburn Athletic.
Selmon is the son of Dewey and nephew of 1970s OU All-Americans Lee Roy and Lucious, respectively. With his hiring, Selmon becomes the first black athletic director in the school’s history.
Selmon joined Oklahoma’s athletic department in 2015 and was speculated to succeed current athletic director Joe Castiglione. The 37-year-old was an associate at the University of North Carolina from 2014 until 2015 when he was an athletic director, and from 2004 until 2007 he played tight end for Forest.
Selmon received a raise from OU on November 30, from $247,200 to $335,000 annually.
