The Shamrocks were handed penalties to take their third victory of the season – Luis Lopez reports from 13 On Your Side

YUMA, AZ (KYMA, KECY) – The Yuma Catholic youth soccer defeated the NFL YET Academy Eagles 1-0 Wednesday night at Ricky Gwynn Stadium.

It was a mostly scoreless game until a penalty was awarded to the Shamrox late in the second half.

A ball sent into the box was unintentionally touched by Eagles’ Jason Vera.

Handball was quickly called up, giving Yuma Catholics their best chance of the night.

Senior midfielder Julian Martinez was called upon to take a penalty kick, which he sent into the back of the net to give the Shamrocks a 1–0 lead.

It turned out to be the game winner as Yuma Catholic kept a clean sheet and posted a two-game losing streak.

The Shamrocks’ next pitch is at home to Tonopah Valley on January 17th.
