Lyles geared up for a fourth-quarter blowout with the Kings’ win, first appearing on NBC Sports Bayarea
The Kings said Kevin Harter missed the game against the Houston Rockets due to a non-COVID-related illness, and Trey Lyles answered the call.
Lyles scored 20 points off the bench in the Kings’ 135-115 win over the Rockets Wednesday night at the Golden 1 Center. However, he scored 15 points in the fourth quarter to help Sacramento outscore Houston 41-20 and clinch the win.
Plus, the Kings forward wasn’t caught off guard when the 27-year-old was asked to step up. Lyles has worked behind the scenes to make sure he’s ready for any time he has to put on the hero cape.
Lyles told Morgan Reagan and Matt Barnes on “Kings Postgame Live” after the win.

The Kings star had nine assists while De’Aaron Fox scored 24, noting that Lyles shot well throughout the game, not just in the fourth quarter.

It was the last corner, the corner he hit into the right hand corner. And I was trying to see what his defenders would do. Fox also stressed that Lyles’ performance against the Rockets speaks to the depth of the Kings’ ability to make up for the loss of Harter.
“We talked about the depth of this roster and how we have multiple players who can explode in a 20-point or 30-point game,” Fox said. I’m not asking you to fill it in, but I just want everyone to step up a little bit.Like you said, Trey had a great game tonight.”
Lyles and the Kings will try to replicate their success once again against the Rockets on Friday night when the two Western Conference foes meet at 7 p.m. Pacific time.
