NEW YORK (AP) — Veteran reliever Adam Ottavino’s $14.5 million two-year deal with the New York Mets includes an $8 million deferral that won’t be paid in full until January 2035.

His deal, announced on Dec. 27, follows a closer $102 million five-year deal with Edwin Diaz, which includes a $26.5 million deferral to be paid through July 2042. am.

Ottavino will receive an annual salary of $7.75 million this year, of which $4 million will be deferred. The deal includes a $6.75 million player option for 2024, of which he has $4 million deferred. There is no buy-out.

He gets a $1 million performance bonus every inning every year.

Ottavino’s deferrals from this year will be paid in installments of $500,000 on January 15 each year from 2025 to 2030, with a final payment of $1 million on January 15, 2031.

If he exercises his 2024 player option, the deferred payment for that season will be paid in $1 million installments on January 15 each year from 2032 to 2035.

Ottavino became a free agent after posting a 6-3 record with a 2.06 ERA and three saves in 66 games last season. He has 38 wins, 34 losses, a 3.44 ERA, and 33 saves in 12 major league seasons with St. Louis, Colorado, the New York Yankees, Boston, and the Mets.

The 37-year-old right-hander, who grew up in Brooklyn, ranks seventh in the National League with 19 holds and batted .161 for right-handers last season. Using his slider, he finished in his 65 2/3 innings with 79 strikeouts and his 16 walks, helping the Mets reach the playoffs for the first time since his 2016 season. I helped.
