San Francisco Giants interested in veteran free-agent catcher Gary Sanchez, according to MLB insiders Hector Gomez.
Sanchez is one of the top catchers remaining on the market, spending the 2022 campaign with the Minnesota Twins.
Sanchez is a solid power hitter, hitting 16 homers and 24 doubles and racking up 61 RBIs during the 2022 campaign, but he’s prone to strikeouts, so don’t expect a batting average.
Recorded a .205/.282/.377 batting average in 128 games, and his career-high 136 strikeouts is the most for an MLB catcher.
What’s more, Sanchez’s defense is questionable, and the Twins will replace Sanchez with a better all-around catcher this winter by signing former Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros backstop Christian Vazquez. became.
But with two All-Star Game selections and a Silver Slugger Award during his seven-year tenure with the New York Yankees, Sanchez still has value. Additionally, he ranks second only to Salvador Perez among his MLB catchers with 154 home runs since 2016.

With the exception of Sanchez, the Giants can rely on Blake Sabol with Bart, but he has no major league experience under his belt and it’s hard to imagine the 25-year-old breaking the roster.
San Francisco could face competition for Sanchez’s services. The Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers and Miami Marlins could still use the catcher, but it’s unclear if any of those teams have expressed interest in Sanchez this winter.
