MITCHELL — This season has been an ups and downs for men’s basketball at Dakota Wesleyan University.
The Tigers are 8-8 overall and 4-4 mid-season in the Great Plains Athletic Conference, but the DWU have lived up to their name from the first half of the season.
Ahead of the Tigers’ next home game against Midland on Wednesday, January 11, there are a few things to note about the DWU year so far.
In the first 10 matches of the season, Diang Gatluak made no action. But against Dortmund on December 10, Jr. came off the bench and sparked 21 points and 10 rebounds.

DWU is Gatluak’s fourth college and all junior college since graduating from DWU in 2018. He appeared in his 30 games in 2019-20 at North Dakota State University of Science (North Dakota State University) averaging 8.4 points per game. The 2020-21 season he played for Triton College in Grove, Illinois, and the 2021-22 season for Bay in Escanaba, Michigan, where he played in nine games.
“His arrival in the lineup was a huge boost for us, especially in the (rebounding) department,” Wilbur said. I’ve tried to really focus on changing things, and he’s right for it.”
Outside of Gatluak, newcomer D’Andre Dennis is also helping the DWU line-up. McCook In his first season with the Tigers after transferring from his community his college (Nebraska), Dennis started in his 13 games and averaged 6.5 points. DWU men’s basketball is no stranger to high-scoring players.
The Tigers don’t have a player scoring 20 points per game this season, but the trio of Köln Oppold, Karan Harman and Jakob Dobny are the top picks to score this year.
DWU’s home game against Briar Cliffs was a case in point, with Herman scoring 14 points in the first 9:21 of the second half, Oppold leading the chargedown and Dobney setting up a shot to force overtime. It helped me to
The trio are averaging a total of 38.5 points per game, with Oppold leading with 15.2 points. Herman has 12.8 points per contest and Dobney has 10.5 points per night.
Oppold doesn’t just score goals either. He is his second on the team with his 7.4 rebounds per game and leads the Tigers with 5.8 assists per game.
“Oppold is our scorer, our assist and our point guard,” Wilbur said. “There’s also Karan Herman and Dobney, who without a lot of experience, gave us a very good first moment of, ‘Hey, here’s my moment playing college basketball. They gave me.”
Home was a fun spectacle for the Tigers this year. They haven’t had much of a chance to play for Corn Palace yet this season.
With 16 games completed, they only played 3 games for Mitchell and 13 games on the road, 8 of which were true road matches and 5 of which were neutral site contests.
The DWU are 3-0 at home and the Tigers are 5-8 away. Two of his three wins at home have come in overtime, and three of his four wins in the GPAC have come at home, but in the conference he’s beaten Mitchell 1-4. increase.
The Tigers didn’t have a home contest for the entire month of November and only had two in December.
