After too many injuries forced UConn women’s basketball to postpone its final scheduled game, the team will be back in action on Wednesday when it travels to St. John’s.

The Big East Conference requires each team to have a minimum of 7 players. The fourth-placed Huskies were down to just six on Friday after injuries to both Aaliyah Edwards (ankle) and Ayanna Patterson (concussion) at Xavier last Thursday.

Associate head coach Chris Daly, who will replace interim head coach Geno Auriemma, told media on Tuesday morning that the team had seven players on Wednesday, meeting meeting standards and Edwards would be back. Daly also said the star’s sophomore, Azi Fad (knee), will be decided during the game against Red Storm.

“I think our players have shown they are very resilient,” said Daley. “And our coaches, you know, we’re preparing every day and this is a long-term thing and we’re working to get better.”

Meanwhile, Ayanna Patterson and Caroline Ducharm (who suffered concussions during practice on Jan. 2) will remain on concussion protocol and not make the trip to New York.

“It[Patterson’s concussion]was something I didn’t know when I went to the media[after the Xavier game],” Daly said. I was feeling the impact.”

Daley said Edwards’ ankle injury limited practice on Sunday. Star Jr. fell onto some empty chairs along the sidelines while chasing a loose ball against the Musketeers. was determined to be unavailable.

“Aaliyah is restricted, but we hope that restricting it will allow her to fully go on Wednesday,” Daley said.

Fudd missed eight games after injuring his right knee in the first quarter of UConn’s December 4 game at Notre Dame. She returned to basketball activities on her December 30th, when she attended pregame warm-ups in uniform for the last three games.

“Nothing has changed in her situation,” Daly said. “It’s a matter of where she is and how she feels.”

Despite all the injuries, the Huskies (13-2, 6-0 Big East) remain poised despite postponing Sunday’s game against DePaul and Auriema not returning.

“I think everything we’ve had to deal with will help us in the future,” Daly said. isn’t coming in March, so I guess that’s the way we’re looking.”
