This year’s MLB season isn’t easy to predict, but the offseason has given us some idea of which teams might be unexpected postseason contenders.
Now that free agency has access to top-tier talent, we are starting to get a real sense of where teams stand in their respective divisions. Most of the teams that qualified for the playoffs last season remain at the top, but there are plenty of newcomers who have improved across the board and have a chance to compete in 2023.
With the leagues switching to a formatted schedule that allows teams to play against each other more often, competition should be more evenly distributed. So for many teams, this offseason was less about adding his one star to the roster and more depth at multiple positions across the board.
Let’s jump right in and take a look at three dark horse postseason teams for the next MLB season.
MLB Predictions – Texas Rangers Advance to Playoffs
In 2022, Texas was just 22nd overall in team ERA with a 4.22 mark. With the addition of Jacob deGrom this offseason, Texas has skyrocketed the expected win totals board. Basically, deGrom’s name is synonymous with greatness, and if he stays healthy, he’ll shock the standings of his team.
Nathan Eovaldi was another key starter added to the rotation this winter. There is little doubt that the Rangers rotation is poised for success if Martin Perez picks up where he left off in 2022.
Ranked 12th with 4.36 runs per game, it’s essential for Texas to click consistently on offense. With a lineup that now boasts Corey Seager, Marcus Semien, Adris Garcia and Nathaniel Lowe, much remains to be desired after that. From or via trade, another bat must be added.
