G.International football star and one of the most accomplished and arguably underrated players of his generation, Ares Bale, announced his retirement from professional football on Monday.
The Welshman’s professional career spanned nearly 20 years and spanned four teams, with five teams including national service for Wales, where he was captain at the recent FIFA World Cup. Bale’s most recent team, his MLS Los Angeles FC, won his first MLS Cup title last year in his first year with the club.

“After careful consideration, I am announcing my immediate retirement from club and international football,” said Bale. It really gave me a moment…so I move forward with anticipation for the next phase of my life: opportunities for change and transition, new adventures.”
Bale, who has scored nearly 200 goals for club and across the country, helped propel him with his cunning left-footed shot, acrobatic finish and world-record transfer fee to Spanish side Real Madrid in 2013. Known for extreme speed. The winger has previously performed brilliantly for Tottenham in his Premier League, breaking onto the scene with his daring solo runs and his goals in the clinical. Bale started his career with another English team, Southampton, who were known as free-kick specialists.
Welsh careers were not without silverware either. He won his five Champions League trophies with Real Madrid, with the same team he won the Spanish League three times, and with Wales he was named Football of the Year six times.
