Almost a month after Correa reportedly first agreed to a 13-year, $350 million deal with the Giants, nearly three years after agreeing to a 12-year, $315 million deal with the New York Mets. Hayes and Rosenthal also reported that the Mets have not yet been ruled out of negotiations.

After spending the first seven seasons of his MLB career with the Houston Astros, Correa signed a three-year, $105.3 million contract with the Twins in the final offseason. The contract included an opt-out after each season, exercised by the former No. 1 overall draft pick following the 2022 season.

When Correa reportedly agreed to a blockbuster deal with the Giants, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported that the Twins had the second highest offer of $285 million over a decade.

It’s unclear what kind of deal Correa’s agent, Scott Boras, has with the Twins.

Heyman reported on January 5 that Correa’s agent had begun talks with other teams.

Correa’s reported agreement with the Giants and Mets fell apart due to medical reports of his surgically repaired right ankle, which he first injured in 2014.

A deal with the Giants was nearing formality, the team had a press conference scheduled at Oracle Park, and Correa was already in the Bay Area watching home with his family. But three hours before his press conference, San Francisco sent the press his release postponing the event. By the end of the night, Mets owner Steve Cohen swooped in and agreed to a deal for Correa.

Since then, the Mets and Boras have been unable to strike a deal.

Giants president Farhan Zaidi told reporters on December 30, 2022, that it didn’t seem like San Francisco would be able to return to the Correa talks.

“Our understanding is that we are currently focused on trading elsewhere as reported elsewhere,” said Zaidi. “From their standpoint, I think the chances of doing business with us are pretty low at this point.”
