Liam Hendricks Cancer Diagnosis Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma Updates Social Media Posts Chicago White Sox

Liam Hendricks, one of Australia’s all-time great baseball players, said Monday morning he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

The Chicago White Sox’s Closer announced the news on his Instagram account, adding that he began cancer treatment this week and “accepts” the challenges ahead.

“As a professional athlete, I have always made a conscious effort to use my position in public for as positive a purpose as possible by shedding light on causes and issues that are close to myself, my wife and my family. ’” Hendricks wrote.

“I was recently diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Hearing the word ‘cancer’ shocked my wife and I, as it does millions of families each year. I am determined to accept the fight and overcome this new challenge with the same determination I have faced other obstacles in my life.

“My treatment begins tomorrow, but I am confident that I will be fully recovered and back on the mound as soon as possible. I am confident that with the treatment and care of , I will be able to get through this.”

White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said the organization’s view of Hendricks is “a human being, not a baseball player.”

“The entire Chicago White Sox organization, our staff, his teammates, and of course the White Sox fans will be rallying to support Liam and Christie in the coming months,” Hahn said.

“Knowing everyone involved, especially Liam, we are optimistic that he will be pitching for the White Sox again as soon as it is viable. We will do our best to support our teammates and their families while respecting their privacy when facing challenges.

“I don’t expect to get an update on Liam’s playing status as early as the start of the season.”

A 2019, 2021 and 2022 All-Star, Hendricks holds the record for strikeouts for an Australian-born MLB player with 724 strikeouts.

He also made MBL history by signing a three-year, $54 million contract with his current team, Chicago, in 2021.
