cardinals pass rusher JJ Watt After recently announcing his retirement from the NFL in a surprising fashion, he will appear in Sunday’s game against the 49ers, the final game of his illustrious career. Before he gives up his cleats for good, football has plans to honor him, starting with two brothers.
Steelers linebacker TJ Watt and fullback Derek Watt chose to swap out their usual black and yellow threads to honor their brother ahead of Sunday’s game. The two shared a photo of the two wearing JJ’s No. 99 Cardinals jersey before the game against the
JJ got to see a touching tribute before hitting the field in California and responded with a heartfelt message of his own.
“Oh my gosh, I wasn’t ready this morning,” Watt said. I wrote in response to my brother’s compliment“I couldn’t ask for two better siblings with all my heart. This means the world to me.”
A 12-year veteran of the NFL, Watt already showed tribute to his football journey by donning custom cleats on Sunday. His shoes include jersey numbers from his high school and college career in Wisconsin, as well as memories of his time with the Texans and Cardinals. Watt also included a photo of his family and his family name on the cleats.
Over the course of his career, Watt has amassed 112.5 sacks and six touchdowns (three offense, three defense). He led the league in sacks twice, made five All-Pro First Teams, and is sure to one day be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Watt will make his final appearance in the NFL when the Cardinals and Niners take the field at 4:25 p.m. ET in Santa Clara, Calif.
