G.Elbonta Davis retains WBA world lightweight title. TKO victory over Hector Luis Garcia Sunday morning after eight rounds.
Davis fended off a slow start and improved to 28-0 with 26 KOs, giving Garcia his first professional loss in 17 games. Garcia teamed up with Davis early on, but was unable to answer the bell in the ninth round.
The Baltimore native, who fights in his adopted hometown, is set to take on Ryan Garcia in one of boxing’s most anticipated duels this April.
“I knew I caught him well, but I didn’t know I caught him that way. But he wasn’t going to come out of the ring. But I caught him well. But my coach…I came back.By the corner I knew…I was going to knock him out.Because I was touching him.I knew I was going to knock him out. began to touch more.
“I felt as though he was trying to set me up. Basically what I was doing. That’s basically what I was doing. I’m not trying to run into no shots. I was trying to catch him, but didn’t let him catch me.
“If it’s up to me, it’s definitely Ryan[Garcia]next. We’re all going in the right direction to some extent, so I’m just waiting for Ryan to settle on his side. Do the job. Let’s finish it.”
