The Palos Verdes youth soccer team played double overtime against Santa Monica on Friday.
In the second period of extra time, Luca Direba scored the winning goal from a Jack Flanagan cross to give PV (6-4-3, 2-0) a lead and win the Bay League 3-2.
Ollie Knotek scored 2 goals and Flanagan provided 3 assists.
Santa Monica tied the game 2–2 in the second half of regulation.
Mira Costa 2, Peninsula 0: Dylan Kodama and Marco Bottene scored for the Mustangs (15-2-1, 2-0) in a Bay League victory.
Evan Hansen made four saves to record a shutout.
In another Bay League game, Redondo beat Culver City 2-1.
Women’s soccer
Torrance 1, El Segundo 0 (2OT): Kyrie Lynskey scored the winning goal and had an assist from Jaden Black of the Tarters in the Pioneer League victory (8-4-1, 4-0).
West Torrance 4, Wiseburn da Vinci 1: Lana Gilligan scored two goals to lead the Warriors (8-3-1, 3-0) to the Pioneer League victory.
South Torrance 4, North Torrance 1: Jordyn Canister scored a hat-trick in a Pioneer League win over Saxons to lead the Spartans (6-6, 2-1).
The senior Canister scored 15 points in 12 games.
men’s basketball
Weisvern da Vinci (12-6, 3-0) men’s basketball remained undefeated in the Pioneer League with a 63-57 overtime victory over West Torrance on Friday.
The Timberwolves led the way with 15 points from Alonzo Gonzalez and 14 points and 15 rebounds from Armose Daniels.
Elijah Price led the Warriors (7-10, 2-1) with 14 points. Amare Holmes and Jaxon Ida finished with 13 each.
Torrance 69, El Segundo 25: The Tarters (8-12, 1-3) won their first Pioneer League game thanks to 29 points from Jalen Thomas and 20 from Andre de los Reyes.
women’s basketball
Bishop Montgomery 78, St. Paul 73: Sofia Dignadice scored 23 points and made four 3-point field goals to lead the Knights (15-4, 2-0) to a Del Rey League victory.
Dayla Davis had 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Atiyah Watson had 15 points.
