Mason — Taylor Cook is in the early stages of his varsity basketball career.

But St. John’s coach Joe Foster believes the sophomore forward/guard is on the cusp of his second season with the national team.

Cook stepped up to show off some big plays on Friday, helping the Red Wings edge Mason to a 36-31 CAAC Red win

Cook finished with 9 points and scored 4 points in the final 1:01 to help St. John’s hold on to victory. She scored the final points of the game after Mason made two free throws from Jocelyn Reiter within one point with 1 minute and 57 seconds remaining.

“She’s been having a year,” Foster said of Cook. “She’s kind of a garbage player, she does everything other people don’t do. She just sticks her nose in one spot and it’s a lot of fun to watch her play.”
