Canadian national team star and Colorado native Janine Becky hosts a camp with her brother Drew to teach the next generation of soccer players.

Parker, Colorado. Janine Becky I know what it feels like to reach the top of a mountain.

“We’re really trying to challenge the group to do elite or next-level stuff so they can see what it takes to get to the top,” Hylands said. A graduate of Baller Christian High School from Ranch said,

Becky is the daughter of two Canadian parents who won gold medals for Canada’s women’s soccer team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the summer of 2021.

She then went on to win the NWSL Championship. Now she and her brother Drew work to impart that work ethic in her hometown camp.

“A lot of this work is due to a lot of the work I did at the club Real Colorado when I was younger and doing camps like this for my development. When you reach the top and achieve that life goal , looking back at all these moments one day when you were at altitude and couldn’t breathe, it’s worth it.”

These Colorado club teams are responsible for producing World Cup champions, gold medalists and NCAA national champions.

The investment has paid off for the growth of women’s football over the past decade, but Becky says the job isn’t done yet.

“People saying ‘I want to invest in this’ are our heroes because they are really closing the gap. Is it a long way to go? Yes, but we are getting closer. I think we’re seeing talent like never before,” she said.

The next generation of talent has emerged on the pitch and Becky is now a reflection of what was hidden as a young player.

“I wasn’t coached by women. When I was younger, there weren’t any female coaches at camps like this,” she said. “So when I see young women here participating, I know how much it means to me to pull them aside and say, ‘Let’s try this next time.’ .”

And she’s doing it with men who are pushing the same vision.

“To be able to do this with my brother and to have someone by my side who encouraged me so much and who believes in women’s sport and wants to push it forward is unbelievable.
