WASHINGTON – Drama dominated the recent build-up towards Garbonta Davis’ fight against Hector Luis Garcia over the past 10 days.

That wasn’t the case on the Friday afternoon scale. Davis and Garcia fell just one pound below the lightweight limit in a 12-round, 135-pound championship match at Capital One Arena on Saturday night.

Davis weighed 134 pounds when he stepped on the District of Columbia Combat Sports Commission scale at the Marriott Marquis. Garcia also officially weighed in at 134 pounds.

Baltimore’s Davis (27-0, 25 KO) thrashed Garcia (16-0, 10 KO, 3 NC) in the main event of the four-fight Showtime pay-per-view show (9pm ET). Defend the WBA world lightweight title. ; $74.99).

The 31-year-old Garcia from the Dominican Republic has increased the junior lightweight maximum from 130 to 135 pounds for a chance to challenge Davis in the biggest fight of Garcia’s career.

The 2016 Olympian defeated Venezuela’s Roger Gutierrez (26-4-1, 20 KO) in a 12-round unanimous decision.

Caesars Sportsbook named Davis as the 14-1 favorite over Garcia on Friday afternoon. If Davis beats Garcia, he’ll likely face rival Ryan Garcia (23-19 KOs) next.
