The Los Angeles Lakers have officially signed veteran swingman Sterling Brown to a 10-day deal, the team announced in a press release.
News that LA is moving toward adding the 6-foot-5 shooting guard/small forward was first reported this morning by Shams Charania and Jovan Buha of The Athletic.
Given that the Lakers are going to be without two of their best wings outside of LeBron James for at least the next two weeks, the fact that the team will fill their positions makes sense.
Brown, 27, was selected 46th overall by Southern Methodist University in the 2017 draft and earned second-team All-AAC honors as a senior. He is perhaps most notable for his three seasons recorded as some quality Milwaukee Bucks reserve for his club. From 2017 he played for 2020 and finally from 2020 he played for two different clubs in Texas, Houston he Rockets and Dallas he Mavericks.
The Mavericks returned Brown to the Rockets during the 2022 offseason as part of a package to acquire center Christian Wood. His contract was then traded again to the Oklahoma City Thunder in another multiplayer deal while still in the offseason. The Thunder eventually released him before the preseason. Brown signed last month with Raptors 905, the NBA G League affiliate of the Toronto Raptors.
Last year in Dallas, he averaged 3.3 points on .381/.304/.933 shooting splits in 12.8 minutes overnight. He also recorded 3 rebounds. With Lonnie Walker IV and Austin Reeves missing at least two weeks of him, he could get quite a few burns off the bench.
Brown is also related to the former Lakers champion, who has won the Lakers twice, as he is the younger brother of Shannon Brown, the reserve shooting guard of the Kobe Bryant/Pau Gasol era.
