The Live Oak and Sobrato women’s football teams started their respective league seasons on 3 January, and both faced different challenges.

The Bulldogs belong to Mount Hamilton, the top division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League. Mount Hamilton has his two teams in which he won the CIF NorCal Regional Championship last season in Lee and Christopher. Live Oak will play for Santa Teresa East, one of BVAL’s B Division. While not top heavy, the Acorns, Central Coast Section playoff entrant Piedmont Hills, and upstart Gilroy, who has a strong 4-1 record, he’s strong enough on the team. -1 in non-league games.

By the way, the Mustangs have beaten both schools at Morgan Hill this season, 3-0, by the same score.

“We definitely have the same goals this year,” said Live Oak coach Tony Vasquez. “Our goal is to win the league, reach the CCS and hopefully reach the finals. We are very excited for the league season.”

Donguri is in the unique position of having only two seniors on the roster, but he is not lacking in experience. About half of the girls are clubbing, including sophomore Maddy Vasquez, a top returner and Tony’s daughter.

Maddie plays with a high motor and gets a good look at the field before going into open space and firing a rocket shot. Now it’s all about the finish as she’s created so many chances for herself, including several golden her scoring opportunities in a scoreless draw with Sobrat on 15 December.

“Maddy has definitely worked on it,” said Tony. “I think one of her weakest elements in her game is shooting on runs that are hard for anyone. So she’s worked really hard and I think she’s going to be a big year for us.

In addition to Maddy Vazquez, Tony Vazquez also includes Mia Gorbock, Grace Quadrini, Ella Angiano, Ashlynn Ingram, Ava Navarro, Evelyn Palominos, Alex Bergholz, Niamh McVay and Gisela Zuniga in the squad. said he has a strong core of a player named goalkeeper Avery Smith.

The freshman quartet of McVay, Navarro, Angiano and Ingram have either started or gained a lot of time this season, boding well for the program’s future.

“I’ve mentored many of these girls in clubs [previously with Orchard Valley] It’s kind of cool to have them here when they were little kids,” Vazquez said. I’m so excited this year because I added a girl to play in the club.

Sobrato, on the other hand, got off to a good start, but were let down by a 0–3 loss to Gilroy on 29 December. Bulldogs coach Marcelo Mariaca said the team has talent but is tough Mount Hamilton.

“The girls are really good at holding the ball, passing, playing as a team, attacking and pressing, so I’m excited for the league season.” Sobrato coached the junior national team for four years I was. “It has to be exciting and fun for everyone.”

Sobrat has a number of experienced players led by University of the Pacific signatory KK Sullivan. Sullivan has tremendous speed and is a threat to outsmart opponents on the flanks. Chloe Brown is back to anchor the backline at centre-back and Mariaka has her there for her speed and touch.

Midfielders Sidney Nguyen, Chloe Galipeo and Miya Avila have the ability to control possessions and distribute the ball well, Mariaca said.

Mariaka also cited Zoe Hargreaves, Lindsey Clayton and goalkeeper Kate Mandrell as differentiators.

“The advantage of having good goalkeepers is that you can trust them and go from there,” Mariaka said.
