The US Women’s National Team announced its 24-man roster on Thursday. Some who quickly searched the list might have worried that Mallory Pugh somehow missed the cut.
Rest assured, the 24-year-old star is on the roster. The team dubbed her Mallory Swanson after marrying MLB shortstop Dansby Swanson last month.
She will wear Swanson behind her jersey this month, starting with two international friendly matches against New Zealand’s soccer Ferns.
The forward, formerly known as Pugh, was the second-youngest player on the USWNT’s World Cup roster in 2019. She scored one goal en route to her country’s fourth title.
She is expected to play a big role for the club in New Zealand this summer. Chicago her Reds Her Stars last year she scored 11 goals and her 6 assists in her 17 games for her team in the NWSL. She has scored her three goals in her three SheBelieves Cup matches in the United States.
Pugh married Swanson on December 10 in Greensboro, Georgia. Less than two weeks later, baseball’s free agent signed him to a seven-year, $177 million contract with the Chicago Cubs.
