Barstool Sports’ sports betting app was granted permission by the Massachusetts Gambling Commission on Wednesday to become a licensed online sports betting operator.

MGC’s unanimous vote qualified sports and entertainment brands owned by Penn Sports Interactive (the online sports betting and casino gaming division of Penn Entertainment). Penn Entertainment also owns and operates Plainridge Park Casino.

Terms of the license include barring patrons under the age of 21 from live Barstool College Football Show events. Cooperate with Barstool Sports Inc. branding research. Provide specific diversity goals.

MGC has set similar conditions for its approval of Plainridge Park Casino’s retail license.

Sports betting at three Massachusetts casinos is scheduled to begin on January 31st.

MGC plans to launch online sports betting in March.

The Barstool Sports app is one of two apps connected to Plainridge Park. The second, Fanatics’ new online sports betting product, was discussed on Wednesday afternoon.

To date, MGC has given initial approval to three tethering online operators other than Barstool Sports. WynnBet and Caesars Entertainment at the Boston Harbor Encore Casino and BetMGM at MGM Springfield.
