As we wrap up 2022 and look forward to 2023, we wish everyone here at World Soccer Talk a Happy New Year.
Thank you for trusting us with 2022 football news, schedules and analysis. Starting with ourselves, we launched a fresh new design this spring with a completely revamped website.
And the football calendar was full of great moments: Real Madrid won the UEFA Champions League and La Liga, while Manchester City, Bayern Munich, PSG and AC Milan also won domestic league glory in Europe.
Stateside, LAFC won its first MLS Cup, while San Antonio FC, Tormenta FC and the Michigan Stars earned top honors in their respective leagues. Orlando City SC won his US Open Cup for the first time, beating his USL’s Sacramento Republic in the final in front of a home crowd in Florida. The Seattle Sounders became the first American team to win the CONCACAF Champions League in over 20 years.
Headlining the international calendar, of course, was the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the return of the US men’s players who didn’t qualify. The tournament in Qatar was marked by controversy, tragedy, thrilling matches and, finally, Leo Messi’s glory. and Argentina.
And 2023 will surely bring more exciting moments. The FIFA Women’s World Cup kicks off on his 20th July in Australia and New Zealand, with the NWSL debuting a new format in the Challenge His Cup that runs throughout the regular season. With the European club season and continental competition coming to an end in the spring, MLS returns with a major new streaming deal with Apple TV and an all-new League Cup where all MLS and Liga MX teams will face each other in the summer. The CONCACAF Gold Cup will also return to crown the North American Champion.
