Wofford announced Friday that men’s basketball coach Jay McCauley has resigned from the program.
The move comes after McAuley took a leave of absence after several players went to the university’s administration on December 5 and said they didn’t want to play for him. The forced Macaulay leave surfaced after players expressed concerns about the amount of practice time and other issues.
Dwight Perry will continue to serve as the program’s interim head coach in McCauley’s absence. Brent Williamson, a spokesman for the school, told the Associated Press that the program was unable to add details about Macquarie’s decision to resign.
Perry coached in five games with a 3-2 record, including a 67-62 victory over Texas A&M on December 20. head coach.
He compiled a record of 58 wins and 41 losses during his tenure. Wofford is now 8-6 overall. That includes dropping his first SOCON matchup in his 73-71 loss to East Tennessee on Thursday.
The Terriers will host UNC Greensboro on Saturday.
