Shannons Weekend Sixer: NFL and College Picks That Bring the Heat

Strap in, because this football weekend is about to deliver some serious drama, with underdogs, powerhouse showdowns, and more scoring than a Vegas jackpot. Sometimes the chips don’t fall your way, and that was last week for us but hey, no looking back — this week, we’re bouncing back strong!

Alright let’s jump right into the deep end here is your weekend 6 pack

College Football Picks for Saturday, Sept 28th:

Maryland +7 vs. Indiana
Maryland’s football team is cruising into Bloomington with Billy Edwards Jr. under center, and while he might not have the flashiest name, he’s been quietly effective. The Terrapins are riding a wave of momentum offensively, and Indiana’s defense has been flimsier than a used bookstore paperback. Sure, Indiana has home-field advantage, but with Maryland’s talent and the way Edwards Jr. has been managing the game, that +7 spread looks tempting. Don’t be surprised if Maryland covers and ruins Indiana’s Saturday.

UNLV -2 vs. Fresno State
UNLV has been on the glow-up under Barry Odom. Their offense has shown it can get the job done, and their defense is no longer just a rumor. Fresno State? They’ve been inconsistent, particularly when they hit the road. With a spread of just -2, backing UNLV to squeak out a win at home seems like the safe bet. It’s like betting that you’ll eat pizza on a Friday — smart, simple, and pretty much guaranteed. Even with Sluka headed for “greener” pastures his backup WIlliams has proven he is capable and he will get the job done Saturday afternoon.

Alabama/Georgia Under 49.5
If you’re expecting touchdowns galore, well, this might not be your game. Both Bama and Georgia come packing elite defenses, and the game has “low-scoring slugfest” written all over it. Ball control and field position will be the name of the game, look for both teams to play this one close to the vest especially at the beginning as neither team wants to be the one to make a mistake and turn the ball over. The under at 49.5 points is the smart money play. You’ll likely get more action from the defensive line than the scoreboard in this one as touchdowns and point will be at a premium.

NFL Picks for Sunday, Sept 29th:

  1. Saints at Falcons – Over 41.5
This Saints-Falcons rivalry never disappoints, and this weekend’s matchup is shaping up to be another thriller. Derek Carr is driving a more dynamic Saints offense this season, and while they’re still missing Kamara, other playmakers are stepping up big time. On the Falcons’ side, they’ve got Kirk Cousins at QB, adding some veteran leadership to complement rising star Bijan Robinson in the backfield. Both defenses? Well, let’s just say they’ve been as reliable as my group chat’s weekend plans—meaning not very. With a total set at 41.5, the over looks like the way to go in what should be a high-scoring battle
  2. Bills Moneyline (+115) at Ravens
This Bills vs. Ravens clash is shaping up to be a must-watch game. While both teams have talent, the Bills—led by Josh Allen—present solid value at +115. Allen has been firing on all cylinders, and Buffalo’s defense has tightened up as the season has progressed. Even though Lamar Jackson is still a dynamic threat for Baltimore, the Bills’ balanced offensive attack, paired with Allen’s ability to spread the ball around, gives them the edge. If you’re looking for a smart play this weekend, Rolling with the Bill’s Mafia on this one.. LET’S GO BUFF-A-LO!!
  3. 49ers -10.5 vs. Patriots
The 49ers are looking to establish themselves as a formidable force this season, After last week allowing the Rams to come back and win the 49ers need a get right game and this is it. Their matchup against the Patriots has the potential to turn into a blowout.. While both teams currently share the same record, the Patriots’ offense has been struggling to find any rhythm, with Drake Maye having difficulty getting the team moving. On the flip side, the 49ers are showcasing promise, with Brock Purdy at the helm of an efficient offense. Although the 49ers are missing some key players on offense they have a strong supporting cast capable of stepping up. This game is all about Brock Purdy and him making smart and efficient decisions with the ball. Look for  San Francisco’s defense to  hold  strong and keep the Patriots mostly out of the end zone. The 49ers  covering that -10.5 point spread seems like a fairly easy call here.
