JACKSON, Mississippi (WLBT) – The Clinton and Brandon youth soccer teams had the chance to face each other in the Class 6A state championship game on Tuesday. On a cold, rainy night, the Arrows hosted Starkville for the North State Championship, while the Bulldogs hosted Gulfport for the South State Championship.
At Clinton, the Arrows hit the back of the net at the end of the first half when Bryce Nunnally grabbed the rebound and passed Yellow Jackets goalkeeper Xavier Edel. Nunnally added another goal late in the game, with Hayden Thomas adding on a penalty kick as the Arrows beat the Yellow Jackets 3–0.
The Bulldogs and Admirals were locked in a scoreless game until overtime, when Nigel Jove broke the scoreless tie with a shot into the corner of the net in the extra frame. Jeison Ramos added a goal with his penalty and the Bulldogs won 2-0 on him.
The Arrows and Bulldogs will face off in the Class 6A championship game at Ridgeland High School on Saturday.Match starts at 6pm
The Clinton women’s soccer team was scheduled to face Lewisburg on Tuesday, but cold weather pushed the game back to Thursday.
In Men’s Class I, St Andrews Episcopal beat Amory 6-2. The Saints play Sacred Heart at Ridgeland High School on Saturday at 2pm.
