After beginning work as a sports intern at KARE, Trowbridge continued to produce nightly sports programming and “Prep Sports Extra”.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minnesota — KARE 11 is mourning one of our own after sports producer Andy Trowbridge passed away over the weekend after a brief illness.

Andy Trowbridge graduated from Anoka High School and received a journalism degree from the University of Minnesota. He started working as an intern in the KARE 11 sports department nearly 15 years before he did, and has never moved away, continuing to produce weekend and weekday sports broadcasts and the ‘Vikings Extra’ show. Andy also played high school football during his season, where he worked closely with Randy Shaver as a producer on “Prep Sports Extra.”

“Andy worked hard to be our sports producer. He loved the job dearly,” he said. Even though he always put that sly smile in. He enjoyed the role.No job was too big or too small. He loved it. Andy was sweet, sweet, thoughtful, funny, and a friend for life.”

Andy had a great passion for sports, especially all the teams in his home state of Minnesota, especially his alma mater, the Golden Gophers.

Andy Trowbridge was only 35 years old. All his friends and colleagues at KARE 11 will miss him deeply.

In lieu of flowers, Andy’s family is asking for donations to the Randy Shaver Cancer Research & Community Fund.
