Trey Murphy III will be busy during the NBA All-Star Weekend.
Murphy isn’t an All-Star yet, but the former UVA star and second-year forward for the New Orleans Pelicans will be in Salt Lake City on Friday, February 17, 2023 at 9:00 PM ET. Jordan Rising Stars done.
Rising Stars features four teams with a total of 28 players who are NBA sophomores, rookies, or G League players. Murphy was one of 10 of his sophomores selected to play on the Rising Stars, and one of his Pelicans, his teammate and former ACC named José Alvarado of Georgia Tech. A basketball player joins in.
Four coaches, Pau Gasol, Joakim Noah, Jason Terry, and Deron Williams, will each draft teams of seven players to compete in a four-team mini-tournament. The semi-finals are played with him out of 40 and the finals with his out of 25 to determine the Rising Star Champion.
Murphy is enjoying a breakout season in his second year in the NBA, doubling his scoring average to 12.6 points per game and posting 3.7 rebounds per game. He shoots 39.8% on 5 or more attempts per game, and he shoots 47.8% from the floor in less than 30 minutes per game. After starting just one game as a rookie, Murphy has started 38 games by the first half of the season.

Trey Murphy III will be attending the 2023 Jordan Rising Stars on Friday, February 17, 2023, joining DeAndre Hunter (2021) as a recent ex-UVA basketball product. The next day, Murphy will be the first former Wahoo player since Ralph Sampson in 1984 to compete in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest as part of his NBA All-Star Saturday Night on Feb. 18.
