PORTSMUTH, Virginia (WAVY) — School officials in Portsmouth, Virginia are investigating after a 22-year-old assistant coach allegedly impersonated a 13-year-old girl and played at a junior varsity basketball game earlier this month. says there is. .

Parents of the girl, posing as a coach, told Nexstar’s WAVY that their daughter was out of town for a club basketball tournament during a Churchland High School game in Suffolk on January 21.

In video of the match obtained by WAVY, the assistant coach, identified as Arlisha Boykins, can be seen high-fiving other players on the team after several plays.

“I was just shocked because coaches always preach to kids about honesty and things like that,” the father of 13 said of his reaction after hearing about the incident.

Assistant coaches are no longer employed by Portsmouth Public Schools. Players and parents of the Churchland High School team have decided not to play any more games this season.

School officials have launched an investigation into the matter.

The girl’s family told WAVY that her daughter is no longer interested in attending Churchland High next year and will pursue other opportunities.
