The NFL salary cap will be set at a record $224.8 million for the 2023 season, according to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport:
As Pelissero points out in the tweet above, the league has seen a significant increase in revenue over the past few seasons. Just three years ago he was less than $200 million.
You (and teams, owners, etc.) can thank factors such as new media deals with broadcast networks and additional games to the regular season. In a contract, they agreed to move NFL Sunday Ticket streaming to their respective platforms.
According to OverTheCap, the Arizona Cardinals currently sit 11th in available cap space at $14,467,205.
With over 30 free agents heading into the offseason, the Cardinals have some decisions to make. With Montiossenfort’s new general manager, pending head coaching rookie, and No. 3 overall nomination, it’s sure to be an interesting offseason.
The Chicago Bears’ cap space is projected to exceed $90 million. The Atlanta Falcons ($56.4 million), New York Giants ($44.7 million), Cincinnati Bengals ($43.7 million) and Houston Texans ($39.2 million) are next in the top five by OTC.
Half of the league’s teams are now negative as far as “effective” cap space is concerned. This takes into account the top 51 players and the projected rookie class on the roster.
All teams must comply with their caps at the start of the league year set for Wednesday, March 15th.
