Vicksburg, Mississippi (WLBT) – You’ve probably heard of disc golf or the ultimate Frisbee, but a new flying disc sport is all the rage. disc hoop.
“It’s like basketball crossed with the ultimate Frisbee. So if you like either of these sports, you’ll probably like DiscHoops,” said a DiscHoops player.
This new sport uses some of the same rules that apply to basketball. You have pass, defense and shoot, but the main difference is you have a disc.
And then one player saw it all come together…
“My dad made the sport, so I was kind of drawn into it,” said the DiscHoops player. “When he started making this sport, he took it from me and a lot of people in the community where I played Ultimate Frisbee. Did.”
This sport has caught the attention of many people, and since the game is so easy to start, more people decided to participate.
“I love how easy it is to incorporate the Ultimate Frisbee and Basketball,” said Brett Williams. “The rules are seamless.”
The Vicksburg YMCA is the first organization to support the new disc sport. They opened the doors of the gym and created a program that gave the sport a place to grow.
“The time is now. DiscHoops has no experts,” said Phillip Doiron, executive director of the Vicksburg YMCA. “Come here, try it. Anyone can throw a Frisbee. You can play DiscHoops.”
So I decided to take him up on the challenge and tried it myself, but it’s not as easy as it looks – after 9 attempts, I finally succeeded once.
DiscHoops is now expanding globally, but the creators of the game want more people in Magnolia State to know about it.
Larry Storey’s goal is to shine a spotlight on disc sports and offer what the state can call its own.
“I didn’t expect it to be as successful as it is, but it all started here. I think it’s good for Mississippians. Frankly, I hope our sport is as popular as it is now.” I think it’s Mississippi’s best-kept secret,” Story said.
