Women’s Basketball Falls to Kentucky

Columbia, Missouri – The University of Missouri women’s basketball team failed to pull off a season sweep against Kentucky in a 77-54 game at the Memorial Coliseum on Sunday night.

Mizzou (14-8, 3-6 SEC) fell into a double-digit hole in the first quarter as Kentucky (10-11, 2-7 SEC) took advantage of 10 Tiger turnovers. The Wildcats converted nearly half of their shots in the period and maintained a strong lead at the end of the frame, with Kentucky noting that the team had a 17-2 run between the first and second quarters. The Tigers fought back when the second quarter switched to a deficit with an 8-0 run. Missouri cut their lead to 10 points at one point in the quarter, but Kentucky rebuilt the advantage with a 9-0 run to end the highest-scoring first half of SEC play.

Coming out of the halftime break, the Tigers fired from the field, knocking down 7 of 14 shots from the field for a total of 20 points. Frank carried the burden by scoring his 12 points this quarter.

However, the Wildcats matched shot after shot to prevent Mizuu from narrowing the margin. At the end of the third, Kentucky made another quick run to put the game out of reach.

Mizzou knocked down 38.5% of his field goal attempts and converted 100% of his free throws on six attempts. Tigers opponents shot him 51.8 percent from the field and 53.3 percent across the arc.

The Tigers will return to Columbia for a two-game homestand starting Thursday against Vanderbilt. The first hint from Mizzou Arena is scheduled for 8pm and the contest will air on He SEC Network and He KTGR.
