The Miami Dolphins have a defensive coordinator.
The team has reportedly agreed to a deal to make Vic Fangio “the highest-paid coordinator in the NFL.” Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.
9News’ Mike Chris reported that nothing has been finalized between Fangio and the Dolphins.

Fangio, 64, brings quite a resume to Miami. He was the head coach of the Denver Broncos from 2019 until he was 2021. However, he also played for the Carolina Panthers (1995-98), Indianapolis Colts (1999-01), Houston Texans (2002-05), San Francisco 49ers (2011-14) and Chicago He Bears (2015-18).
His defense has finished top 10 in yards allowed nine times and top ten in points allowed ten times. As such, his potential hiring has become a widely acclaimed move for the Dolphins.

The Dolphins fired former defensive coordinator Josh Boyer in early January after the team slipped from sixth in points allowed in 2020 to 16th in 2021 and 22nd last year. His defense also never topped 15th in yards allowed in the three seasons he commanded.
At Fangio, young head coach and offensive mastermind Mike McDaniel has acquired an experienced and widely respected defensive coordinator to handle the side of the ball. Ostensibly, the move will allow McDaniel to focus less on defense and more on the attacking side of the ball.
That unit didn’t matter for the Dolphins in 2022, as the first-year head coach led them to 6th in yards and 11th in points. And it was quarterback Tua Tagovailoa who missed four games due to multiple concussions.
Meanwhile, the Dolphins went 9-8, ending a five-year playoff drought. The reported hiring of Fangio only adds to the growing excitement around the organization.
