The Slam Dunk Contest, held during the NBA’s All-Star Weekend, is always a fan-favorite event.
From Vince Carter’s acrobatics to Aaron Gordon battling Zach LaVine to Michael Jordan’s dunks from the free-throw line, dunk contests have always been a staple of the NBA’s mid-season breaks.
But over the last few seasons, many have said that the Slam Dunk Contest has lost its feel, not just because of changes in rules and guidelines, but because of the creativity of the dunks.
Last year’s Dunk Contest wasn’t very exciting, but with a fresh group of young, acrobatic and athletic players, the league hopes to revitalize the event!
on saturday night, ESPN’s Andrew Lopez announced that New Orleans Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III will be participating in this year’s dunk contest, making him the last entrant to the All-Star Weekend.
Before, Athletic’s Shams Charania reported shadon sharp From the Portland Trail Blazers K.J. Martin from the Houston Rockets Mac McClung The NBA G League will be competing in this year’s Dunk Contest, with an unknown fourth entrant.
As reported by Lopez, that fourth spot will be occupied by Trey Murphy III.
Of this group, McClung is the oldest entrant at 24, while KJ Martin is the most experienced in the league as he is in his third season with the Rockets.
Sharpe, Martin, McClung and Murphy are all athletic, young players known to have exceptional dunks, so this definitely has the makings to be a special group.
As previously mentioned, the 2023 AT&T Slam Dunk Contest will take place on Saturday, February 18, the day before the 2023 NBA All-Star Game.
