The Aces rocked the WNBA landscape on Saturday when two-time WNBA Champion Candace Parker announced on Instagram that she was signing with the Las Vegas Aces.
The move saw Las Vegas turn over star forward Dearika Humby and a 2024 first-round pick to the Sparks in a blockbuster trade in exchange for a second-round pick and negotiating rights to forward Amanda Zahui B. Done a week later.
When Parker’s post surfaced on social media, her new ace teammates shared some pretty hilarious reactions. Her two-time WNBA MVP, A’ja Wilson, was nearly speechless with a few tweets.
Chelsea Gray, 2022 WNBA Finals MVP, tweeted, “Song announces we’re reunited**.” Gray and Parker were once teammates in Los Angeles, and in 2016 she won the WNBA title. Skye and Gray go for Ace.
Meanwhile, Kelsey Plum was dozing off while the news unfolded.
Parker led Sky to her second title, the WNBA Championship, in her first season with Sky in 2021, while Gray won her second championship in 2022 with Ace. Now, the two reconnect in Sin City for the ’23 season.
With Las Vegas acquiring Parker, the Aces are the favorites to repeat as champions in 2023. If Las Vegas succeeds, the Aces would become the first franchise to win back-to-back titles since 2001 and his 2002 Sparks.
