(Reuters) – Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen took just 19 minutes to sack manager Jim Goodwin after being beaten 6-0 by Hibernian on Saturday.

Goodwin continued to work after Aberdeen suffered a humiliating cup defeat to sixth-tier Darvel on Monday.

The players didn’t even emerge from the locker room before news broke that Goodwin’s tenure had ended after less than a year.

In a statement posted on the club’s website, Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack did not mince words.

“I met Jim at the end of the game. Jim is a perfectly decent guy. He’s been doing the best he can, but the simple fact is that the results he’s had since returning from a World Cup hiatus have been completely unacceptable and his away form has been downright abysmal.

“I also feel sorry for the supporters. I was embarrassed, humiliated and shocked by what happened last week. That’s how our fans feel and I can only apologize to them.”

Aberdeen are seventh in the league after conceding 11 goals in their last two league games.
