At least these days, the Coaches Poll represents a little bit of whoops.
The final AP College Basketball rankings are released before the NCAA Tournament. Since the 1991-1992 season, the Coaches’ Vote has published the final rankings after the NCAA Tournament, so a national champion can be crowned.
Just like we do for soccer rankings, we’ll take all the final rankings from the Coaches Poll and use a simple scoring system. The No. 1 team in each season’s final Coaches Poll gets 25 points, the No. 2 team gets 24, the No. 3 team gets 23, and so on down.
