Bangkok (Thailand), January 27 (IANS): Team Uzbekistan put in an impressive performance to top the medal standings of the ASBC Asia U22 Boxing Championship by winning 14 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze medals here.

After Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan came second with 5 gold, 3 silver and 12 bronze, while host Thailand came third with 3 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze.

The men’s final opened with a match for the minimum weight (48kg). Kazakhstan’s Sanzhar Tashkenbay beat Uzbekistan’s opponent Shodiyorjon Melikuziev.

Philippines’ Aaron Jude Bud defeated Thailand’s Tanara Zenphet by split decision in the second round of the 51kg division. Kazakhstan’s Nursultan Altumbek has beaten Philippines’ Flint Jara in the bantamweight division, according to a report by the International Boxing Association (IBA).

World Men’s Boxing Championship finalist Mahmoud Sabilkhan had a very close and tough fight with Saraut Suktet (Thailand) and was able to convince the judges that he was the better man.

Dilshod Abdumrodov from Uzbekistan has proven himself to be the best U22 Asian boxer in the 60 kg class. His opponent Phusanet Lozuk tried hard to win the gold medal, but the judges unanimously gave Abdumrodov his 5-0 decision.

Uzbekistan’s Shakhboz Yunusaryev defeated Mongolian boxer Turga Oyunbaatar in a 4-1 split decision at light welterweight.

Another boxer from Uzbekistan, Behzod Kamidov, won another gold medal for his country in a hard-fought battle against Abzal Serik (Kazakhstan) in the welterweight category. Two more thrilling battles between Uzbekistan took place in Bangkok.

In the 71kg class, Nurislom Ismoirov (Uzbekistan) took on Akkarikov Sabildzhan (Kazakhstan), and Ismoirov won the gold medal for his country after three rounds. At middleweight, Abdullaev Arohon (Uzbekistan) defeated Diaz Morzigitov.

In the light heavyweight division, Chinese Harmurati Rehemandu did his best, but his opponent Yasurbek Yuldshev was better according to the judges’ scorecards.

Team Uzbekistan went unstoppable in the final, beating their opponents in the next three matches. Shokhjakhon Abdullaev and his Indonesian opponent Maikhel Roberrd Muskita had a spectacular fight but was stopped by the referee after Muskita received a cut.

In the 92kg heavyweight division, Nusratbek Tokilov (Uzbekistan) performed well, beating Abdullah Rajapov of Cambodia 5-0. The realistic battle between super heavyweight Jahongir Zokirov (Uzbekistan) and Aijhaiel Tuohondji (China) impressed the audience.

Dubbed “Big Uzbekistan 2.0”, Zokirov unleashed faster and more powerful punches than his opponents to win 5-0 and give Uzbekistan another gold medal.
