A deal made during the 2022 NFL season leaves the Minnesota Vikings a little short of picks in the 2023 NFL Draft. They seem to be getting some more ammo, but not as much as we originally hoped.
Over the Cap’s Nick Corte has put together a prediction of the compensatory draft picks he believes will be dealt heading into the 2023 draft, giving the Vikings one extra pick. Earlier predictions had them receiving his two selections, but that has been cut.
According to Corte’s predictions, the Vikings will receive an extra fifth-round pick in the next draft after losing tight end Tyler Conklin, who had a pretty good season with the New York Jets.
Corte’s previous predictions from April of this year had the Vikings both receiving two compensating picks in the sixth round of the draft, offsetting losses to safety Xavier Woods and offensive lineman Mason Cole. But things seem to have changed since then.
Looking at the cancellation chart that OTC has provided to illustrate their correction pick predictions, Woods’ loss is offset by the signing of Harrison Phillips. Cole’s loss was undone by the addition of Shandon Sullivan to Corte’s final predictions, leaving the Vikings with only one compensatory pick for him.
If this is accurate, the Vikings only have five picks heading into draft weekend. I have a weird feeling that I’m trying to do something to turn this into significantly more selection.
