The first half of the finals of the ASBC U22 Men’s and Women’s Asian Boxing Championships were held in Bangkok on January 25th.
Uzbekistan had the best result, winning 5 out of 11 gold medals. Host country Thailand finished second with three gold medals, Kazakhstan two, and Mongolia one.
Nepal’s Taman Susuma and Uzbekistan’s Fozirova Farzona’s first bout in the 48 kg division ended with the undisputed victory for the Uzbek athlete after three rounds.
“The feeling is very good. I want to thank everyone who supported me and our team. , it was a tough battle against a really strong opponent. I would like to thank the organizers for holding this event at a very high level, ”said an emotional Farzona after the victory.
Fozilova’s compatriot Sabina Bobokulova didn’t miss a chance against her Vietnamese opponent Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tran to win 5-0 on the judges’ scorecards. Exactly the same results were shown for her two other boxers from Uzbekistan. Ferza Kazakova defeated China’s Tan Daxuan in the 52kg division, and Nigina Ukhtamova defeated China’s Guiyin Feng in the bantamweight division. Later in the day, Asia’s elite title-list Nabu Bakor Hamidova spurred Uzbekistan’s medal campaign with his 5–0 victory over Mongolia’s Myagmarsuren Tsetsegdali at welterweight.
In the featherweight division, Zorjargal Batur (Mongolia) defeated Sitra Turdibekova (Uzbekistan) 3-2.
Thailand’s Pornthip Buapa had a successful 4-1 rematch with Mongolian boxer Nomin Erdene Tugusjalgal in the lightweight (60kg) division.
“I would like to thank everyone who participated in this championship. Also, everyone in Thailand, everyone who supported me in this competition, everyone who supported me to be here. And it was a bit tough because I played against a boxer I lost in the past.It’s a big, big win for me.I feel completely ready for the next championship,” said Tai Buapa. Porntip said.
Youth Olympics 2018 Champion Tananya Somnook of Thailand defeated Asian Elite Boxing Champion Badmarag Somnuk of Mongolia by unanimous decision at light welterweight (63 kg).
Zhasmin Kizatova and Gulsaya Yerzhan defeated three-time ASBC champion Aziza Zokirova of Uzbekistan and Pornnipa Chutee of Thailand in the light heavyweight (81kg) division to bring gold to Kazakhstan.
“First of all, thanks to the Almighty, I dedicate my victory to my country! I would like to express my gratitude to my coach, Yeldos Saidallin. In the final, Uzbekistan’s opponent was very strong because she is a finalist of the world championship, but my coach helped me and I learned her fight very well and developed tactics against her. Tokyo Olympics ASBC Asian Youth Champion Bison Manikon did not give his opponent Sokiba Ruzmetova (Uzbekistan) a chance in the 75kg class. The judges gave the Thai player her 5–0 victory, and the host nation’s national team celebrated her third gold medal.
